GAPS Diet Part IV: The Ins and Outs of The Introduction Diet

There is a plethora of reasons why bone broth is the backbone of the GAPS Diet.  First and foremost are its anti-inflammatory effects on the intestines.  Amino acids such as glycine, proline, and arginine all have anti-inflammatory properties and bone broth is LOADED with them!  Bone broth also contains chondroitin sulfate (a very expensive nutritional supplement), a structural component of cartilage that has been found to improve inflammatory conditions as well.  Bone broth also has easily absorbable minerals that help heal and seal the...

GAPS Diet Part III: The Introduction Diet

When I was in Puerto Rico, my intestinal distress hit an all-time high! I could not even consume salad greens (which had always been a staple in my diet) without major gas and bloating, followed by a trip to the bathroom. I never knew when it was going to hit! It was completely unpredictable. The thought of leaving the house for the day brought on enormous stress for me. I had always heard people speaking about this and was never able to relate to it.  Now was different and I had much more empathy for these folks.  The last day of vacation,...

GAPS Diet Part II: The Diagnosis….Clostridium Difficile

I arrived back from Puerto Rico late last Wednesday and was grateful that a friend had put some chicken carcasses in a Crock-Pot for me earlier that day; for I had to be at work the next morning at 7a.m.  I was determined to begin the GAPS Diet ; I  knew that bone broth was exactly what my intestines needed to calm the inflammation down!!  For those of you who don’t know, I was a vegetarian for nearly 14 years!  I must say it was about 2 years ago, when I started studying the GAPS Diet, that I became convinced that a vegetarian diet was...

GAPS Diet Part I: What is Going on With My Intestines?

Intestinal Health

Let’s just face it, I am not a born blogger!  It is now my intention to write a blog post at least once per month and possible twice per month.  Hold me to it!! Back on task here… I want to write about the importance of intestinal health in regards to our health in general.  Our guts are home to trillions of bacteria, both “good” and “bad”.  In fact, we have 10 times more bacteria in our bodies than we have cells, totalling about 4 pounds!  The “good” or beneficial bacteria keep the...

Spring is here and so is my new website!

Believe it or not strawberry season will be upon us in a couple months. This is a good time to get to your PYO farm and stock up on strawberries. Freeze them and you will be able to add them to your smoothies whenever you want. Yum! Spring is a time of change and growth. I wanted a fresh new feel to by website. Hope you like it! And it’s also a time to shake off the winter blues and feel good. If you have done my cleanse and liked it, please spread the word and if you are planning to do it again, let me know. It’s good to have...
